The rather unconventional visionary Guy Ritchie has been stuck in a Hollywood rut for the last ten years, ever since he committed to big budget, visual effects heavy films, such as Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and this year"s underwhelming live action version of the classic Disney, Aladdin. The British director goes back to his roots with the highly entertaining gangster film "The Gentlemen" and surprisingly nails every bold punch he makes.
Although his "Aladdin" made a ton of money, critically the film was a disaster. His return to the underground world of bribery, drugs, money-laundering and blood-covered-class, is as refreshing as it is entertaining. The film"s script deals with two storylines at the same time, almost breaking the fourth wall with a tongue-in-cheek commentary on today"s Hollywood and how big movie studios are hungry for some original yet overly mainstream basic content, to lure people into cinemas to go watch their films.
Beginning with a quick flash forward that ends with a bang and a pair of brains splattered all over a pint and a pickled egg at a typical British pub, we dial it back to a quiet evening at Raymond"s (Charlie Hunnam) cosy house. When private investigator and intrusive sly fox, Fletcher (Hugh Grant) turns up at his house, he explains he has been keeping an eye on the different gangs around town for quite a while. Narrating most of the film and making some stuff up to make things more spectacular for himself, he reads his mostly finished movie script to Raymond, bribing him into funding his little project, or else he"ll leak all the information he has on Raymond"s boss Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) a white trash American expat who has build himself a marijuana empire.
Mickey is tired of the business and is trying to sell his highly profitable company to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires. But when one of the underground weed-plantations gets raided by a group of British lads, filming the entire thing and posting it on YouTube as some sort of fight- music-video, it quickly becomes clear some mobster bosses haven"t been exactly honest about their meetings and loyalty towards each other. This is when the real war begins - while keeping it classy.
Ritchie co-wrote the story with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, who haven"t written anything before. The idea of the entire film is prodigious, but the screenplay and dialogue is simply unprecedented by Ritchie himself, bringing joke after joke, while taking you on a thrilling ride full of genius twists and new ways to incorporate classic gangster cinema - Ritchie-style. Composer Christopher Benstead is debuting his very first score for a feature film with The Gentlemen, and knows exactly how to set the tone and drive it up to an eleven. A promising talent that won"t go unnoticed.
Ritchie introduces new characters throughout the film, keeping the audience on the edge of their seat, surprising them with actual cinema, getting the best angles and money shots, thanks to his cinematographer Alan Stewart (Aladdin. When adding layer after layer to the story, going deeper into the underground scene, adding a new protagonist who"s into human trafficking and Mickey"s queen and wife, the cockney Cleopatra, Rosalind (Michelle Dockery) who owns a sanctuary for the ladies as some sort of business coverup to her husband"s weed-empire, it becomes clear every role has a purpose and there are no extras involved in this story. One of the best acting ensembles in recent cinema history, and a welcome reminder from McConnaughey as to why he won an Oscar in the first place. But it"s Colin Farrell (as the highly entertaining "Coach" and Hugh Grant who steal every scene they"re in with their remarkable wit that"ll for sure land them some BAFTA-nominations.
"The Gentlemen" is a ruthless first-class kick in the teeth. Do not let the failures of Ritchie"s recent career choices scare you, as this is actually one of the best films he"s ever made. Who knew Guy Ritchie could raise the bar not just for himself, but for everyone out there trying to brush him off as a has been. 2020 is off to a great start.

From the acting to the story everything was great. There was a lot of action and when there wasn"t they kept us entertained with an interesting story line that blew me away. The only issue was when they cut to a different seen it seemed as if they had cut hours later I just wish there was more story in between cuts. But overall a great film.

Finally! I firetrucking love captain America, I"ve always liked superheroes without many superpowers cause they tend to kick so much more ass! Examples, captain America, Batman, Daredevil just. Considering the fact that Rogers was skinny as bones and had asthma, the fact that he could even keep up is quite frankly amazing. Good movie even if it"s production was a bit ruff and i swear i could hear the batman 1989 theme play and when the flash was in screen the tv theme could also be slightly heard. “Hell get over it” ????????. General: “Hes still skinny” Me: “Then buy him lunch”.

Do avatar clips and classic trailer. I watched it yesterday. A fun take of the origin story of the symbol of America. I must say I really enjoyed this movie and was happy to see Marvel treat such an important character with as much care as they did. The red skull was a really fun character and a perfect villain for Captain America"s first movie, and they chose the perfect actors for the Captain and the Red Skull. Honestly all of the actors did a great job in this movie, even getting me a little choked up watching Bucky slip away. The story and pacing was also well handled and to see such a believed character treated with as much love as he was I am happy to say I was able to experience it. Truly well done, from the action shots to the 1940"s feeling I left the theater much happier then when I entered. I give this a 9/10. Whatever happens tomorrow, you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are, not a perfect soldier, but a good man" – Abraham Erskine.

Imagine if that was a real grenade. That general would basically doom the whole universe. Did he through the grenade when he said get away! cause it kinda looked like it, that or it was his tags. This was an enjoyable movie, although rather frustrating at times. It could have been great but doesn"t really come close. I have a theory that most movies can be improved by cutting them down, but I don"t like censorship. The great ones, however, are best left untouched. This one has so many unnecessary clichés. Men in coats randomly turning knobs, arrogant army-people, weak people stereotypes, relationship stereotypes. But really, the problem is the *cinematic* clichés. The way these sequences and ideas are filmed the same way they"ve always been made as if it"s the only possible way.
The movie got more interesting when it poked fun at (or satirised or whatever) 1940"s American war propaganda. Still, Superman seems more of the squeaky-clean all-American hero, giving friendly tips and speeches after each rescue. Captain America is not as noble or as much of a leader. He"s a good guy who was given powers and who takes ages to figure out he should use them. He never questions the process. A classic quality of a hero is that they never choose power.
Chris Evans is likable and convincing I reckon but seriously, all these "hot" celebrities playing "ugly" or "weak" is weird. Guess they didn"t have a choice. But Steve Rogers could have been one of the most interesting movie characters ever. The thing is, I think people with his level of dedication and who have been through all those beatings develop a high level of discipline and end up strong. Especially psychologically but also physically. They"re kind because they know how it feels to be hurt. Usually, to be really stereotypical, the big strong guys are soft on the inside while the small guys are really edgy and aggressive.
This movie basically supports steroids. You know, it"s so important that we care about this guy, that we believe he"s good-hearted and then they just give him strength and he"s like "cool beans. Hugo Weaving was cool as the villain, strange accent, a little like Arnie at times but certainly pretty unique and memorable. Shame the role"s so one- dimensional. He likes playing mysterious masked/scarred people.
As a popcorn accompaniment, this is plenty good. The action wasn"t amazing but was consistently good and fun to watch. I liked the overall style, like some forgotten time and place. Also hilarious how they had better technology 70 years ago than now, I didn"t realise that. And how love sprouts so rapidly. Plenty to like and plenty to be like "why. His shield was awesome.

Finsihed watching the last airbender on netflix- im actively mad at this movie for existing. The most disappointing thing is that Iroh aint even his cute chubby self. This could have been so amazing if they did a better job with the cast, the editing, and the effects. Really in love with the soundtrack of this movie. the ravel in the background just makes this even more enchanting. Best film of the year, its fucking amazing. I love how they played this out here. Like everything they do says so much, and how they talk about it, just ugh. Is call me by your name illegal. What does it mean to call me by your name. Not to single out this particular premise, but films revolving around gay couples have been terrific over the last decade or so. There was a spark when 2005"s Brokeback Mountain was released, which eventually brought us to foreign films like Blue Is the Warmest Colour being nominated for a Golden Globe or Moonlight winning best picture at the Oscars. Call Me by Your Name is the latest film to probably receive many nominations in the coming months, and believe me, the praise is not false. Being a fan of 2015"s A Bigger Splash, I was looking forward to Luca Guadagnino"s follow-up feature film, and I believe this to be an improvement in the best ways. Exploring the hardships of life and what it means to just kick back and relax every now and then, Call Me by Your Name is a film that"s been sticking with me since my viewing of it. While it admittedly won"t be able to draw in everyone to the theatres, here is why I believe this to be a fantastic, award-worthy picture.
Written by James Ivory and directed by Luca Guadagnino, Call Me by Your Name follows a family that lets Oliver, an older graduate student, live in their home for the summer. While this is a common thing, what"s not too common is that Elio, their son, will eventually grow romantic feelings toward this man, convincing him to become his lover for the summer. From the age gap between them and having to hide it from the family, their situation isn"t an easy one, nor will it be for some audience members, but it really is a wonderful story. This is easily a story that could"ve stirred up controversy if it hadn"t been done with taste, and because of how it was made, I just couldn"t take my eyes off the screen. This was made entirely possible by the incredibly devoted performances by Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer.
Hammer has had his ups and downs through the years, appearing in Oscar-winning films as well as some of the worst films of the year, so his performance here was the most shocking to me. Yes, he"s been talent in nearly everything he"s been in, but he really gave his all in this performance and I honestly don"t think he"ll ever be better than he was in Call Me by Your Name. On the other hand, young Chalamet has a very bright future ahead of him. Being a relatively new actor, his chemistry with Hammer was impeccably astounding. Their relationship took a while to grow on me, but once it completely won me over, I found myself wondering if there was anything to really complain about.
If I had to complain about anything, it would be in its extreme pressure to try your patience. There are very long sequences of silence, making you relax and take in either a romantic moment or the scenery around them, which I also found poetic at the same time, so I actually have trouble coming up with issues, but I have to admit that I did find the movie slow at times. Yes, it"s meant to be slow, which is why that complaint isn"t exactly valid, but I just have to be honest.
In the end, this is a truly remarkable piece of dramatic filmmaking and there are some very memorable scenes that keep replaying themselves in my head. One scene in particular that involves Elio and his father Mr. Perlman (played magnificently by Michael Stuhlbarg) toward the end had me in tears. From the brilliantly written screenplay, to the poetic cinematography, to the terrifically calm direction, Call Me by Your Name isn"t a movie that I would send the average moviegoer out to see, but if you"re a hardcore film fan, I think you"ll end up loving this movie.

Call me by your name peach scene script. This movie shot me straight back to my adolescent exploration of love. After seeing it I went through days of processing old, deep-set emotions I pushed away at the time to not feel so much pain. It gave me a gift of cathartic processing. Ive fallen in love with both of them and Im so grateful for this film. My heart feels different, the quivering of innocent love alive again. ??.

Timmy"s so transparent that he actually poured out so much in the interviews, got carried away, unable to call a halt. While armie smiles and blush, silently signals him to hide the most erotic details while he still can. Adorable. Call me by your name vinyl. Call Me by Your name name. The movie had no need for forced obstacles as means for a more engaging or dramatic story line because the precise point of their story was the total immersion in one another, regardless of external forces. to add struggles with their sexuality- be that internal or external- would have taken away from their story. while that may have worked for moonlight, it would have been totally out-of-place here; this story is not one about sexuality, it"s about an experience and the nuances within said experience. similarly, in god"s own country, the story is about the two falling in love and the influence one has on the other; in GOC, though, they do end up having a falling out, which worked quite well for that story, but would feel distorted for the style and intentions of cmbyn. oliver"s and elio"s story carries its own weight and does not need pinpointed events of exposition to create its own sense of devastation, it does that quite well on its own.

This movie was such a risky movie to make, and a risky book. im beyond thankful that they made this movie. to show young love and to show that you dont have to hide who you are. some people in out society are scary and would hate this movie, but you have to ignore those people. this movie is really going to go down in history as one of the best screenplays ive ever seen... So so much freaking chemistry! It almost seems like they"re actually in love with each other! Makes me wish that they were both gay and single. Call me by your name music.
